The KU Car Care
program is a research project coordinated by the University
of Kansas to help Kansas Citians become more aware
of the effects of vehicle exhaust on our
air quality and
health. KU Car Care focuses on the steps
each of us can take to make Kansas City's air
cleaner for everyone in the metroplex, especially children,
older and active adults. The program seeks to improve
air quality by educating people about the importance of
clean ai,r and what they can do to improve air quality.
Using
remote sensing technology, the program measures the
pollutants in exhaust from cars. This involves shining
an infrared beam into an automobiles' exhaust stream as
they drive by and showing drivers the condition of their
vehicle's emission, at the moment of sampling, on a sign
located a hundred feet down the road. |
